AMERICAN RAPTURE by C.J. Leede
In AMERICAN RAPTURE by C.J. Leede, a virus is spreading across the U.S., leaving its victims violent with lust. Unfortunately for teenaged Sophie, the virus comes at a time when she is just beginning to recognize her own sexual desires and is beginning to question her devout Catholic upbringing and beliefs.
In the midst of all the chaos, Sophie is forced to leave her sheltered life behind to travel across the Midwest in search of her twin brother. The things she sees and learns along the way force her to confront everything she was taught and thought she knew.
AMERICAN RAPTURE explores themes of religious trauma, sexuality, survival, and redemption.
Whew, I read this book for Zombruary and it was intense. This is the second zombie book I’ve read that involves zombies who sexually assault their victims, and some fates are for sure worse than death. And it would be one thing to know what is happening and to be able to somewhat prepare for it (at least mentally, if not physically), but poor Sophie had such a sheltered upbringing in what was basically a cult, that she really had no idea what was going on until she was forced to leave her home and see it for herself.
It’s hard to use the word “enjoy” on a book like this, but it had me hooked from the beginning and I had a hard time putting it down. If you can stomach books like this, I definitely recommend it.
